The Hotel has recently been purchased by The Westbrook Hotel Company LTD. Located in the market town of Faringdon, this former 16th-century coaching inn still has its original courtyard. This boutique-style hotel offers spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs and free on-site parking. The Old Crown Coaching Inn was a 16th century coaching Inn, Built on the site of an early Hostelry, and was re-fronted in Georgian times. There is an original courtyard, from which there is a fine example of an Elizabethan external stairway called the Judges staircase, which was access to the Manorial courts which sat in the courtroom on the first floor, now a hotel room named suitably named The Court Room (our suite room).

interesting history regarding the hotel and the Courtroom (pictured) was that James II appointed Judge Jeffreys as Lord Chancellor and judge, who worked from this very room. Jeffreys was so brutal he was known as the Hanging Judge. Several towns had gallows for the victims including Faringdon - in the Market place outside The Old Crown.

There were many such coaching inns throughout the country with the Old Crown sitting on the route from Bristol to Birmingham. After unhitching from the carriages, the horses were led through the archway to stables at the rear. These buildings are still here today, and can be seen from our car park.

There were cavalry skirmishes later during the War of the Roses with Faringdon opting for the Red Rose side and indeed, you will notice the original Red Rose in the bar windows.

The hotel is ideally positioned to explore Faringdon's picturesque streets and the surrounding Cotswolds countryside. The town centre has attractions including Folly Tower, All Saints Church & Buscot Park.
