More about Faringdon & the surrounding area

With skylines pierced with spires and domes, palace estates and idyllic meadows, Oxfordshire has a dreamlike quality. Top things to do in Oxfordshire include a punt on the River Cherwell in Oxford for a student's-eye view of highbrow colleges, walks though rambling deer parks, botanic gardens and lush meadows, and jaunts to Henley-on-Thames to see varsity teams row in posh regattas. Walkers amble between stony Cotswold villages like Witney and Woodstock, and tread ridgeways over the Chiltern Hills as red kites swoop overhead. Meanwhile, shoppers spend happy days lost in Bicester's designer outlets and old-school covered markets.

On the doorstep of Faringdon and the hotel you will be able to enjoy an unlimited range of activities. To list a few you can walk, run, cycle, swim, shoot, golf, yoga, tennis, tune up your chef skills at cookery schools or simply relax in a nearby spa.

We have teamed up with local businesses offering our guests a tailored and streamlined experience. If you have any questions, or you would like us to organise activities during your stay with us, please get in contact with our reception team before/during your stay.

Faringdon has often been described as the "gateway to the Cotswolds" whilst also remaining extremely accessible to Oxford, London & cities alike by car or public transport.

Buscot Park

Buscot Park was laid out in the 1780s in the English Landscape style to provide a naturalistic setting for the late eighteenth century Palladian style house. The famous Water Garden was added in 1904 by Sir Alexander Henderson, later the 1st Lord Faringdon, who commissioned the architect and garden designer Harold Peto to create a link between the house and the Big Lake. Buscot Park consists essentially of a series of stairways, formal lawns, pools and basins interlinked by a descending canal complete with a fountain, rills, miniature cascades and a bridge all flanked by box hedges sheltering antique statuary and stone seats.

Enjoy the refreshments in the Tea Room or an intimate theatre experience in the East Pavilion, Buscot Park has something for everyone.

The Heart of the Cotswolds: Bibury

Bibury is a charming Cotswold village just a short drive from The Old Crown and Coaching Inn.

William Morris (1834-96) described Bibury as "the most beautiful village in England". Fox News says that Bibury is one of the world's most picturesque villages, and an article on the Huffington Post website (1st May 2014), titled "The Most Charming Towns In Europe You'll Want To Visit ASAP", mentioned Bibury.

There's no doubt that Bibury is featured on many lists of most beautiful Cotswold villages, and even the most beautiful villages in the UK.

The cottages of Arlington Row are often referred to as the most photographed and beautiful cottages in the country.

Originally built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, the building was then converted into a row of weavers' cottages in the 17th century.
